Kavita Patel, LCSW-C
Kavita received her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland with a specialty in Families and Children in 2006. Areas of clinical specialty include, PTSD, trauma, domestic violence, women’s issues, emotional dysregulation, self injurious behaviors, attachment, relationship issues, anxiety and depression, in individual, family & group therapy. Kavita has worked over 12 years with adolescents and has experience with chronically mentally ill adults, women in abusive relationships, and young adults with a variety of psychiatric concerns.
As a therapist, she seeks to help individuals bring meaning, words, and expression to their experiences that resist easy understanding. Kavita works collaboratively with her clients to create a language for unexamined feelings and to create a space and time for their exploration, reflection and examination. Your input, your opinion, your thoughts, your feelings are what guide her. She will help create a space of trust and connection and explore what feels most pressing for you now, as well as old patterns that may be holding you back from greater happiness and ease. Kavita’s approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive and non-judgmental. She brings a spirit of creativity to her work, and sees the healing force of the therapeutic relationship as the primary vehicle for change. She views each person as a unique individual, taking into consideration personal life experiences. Kavita is also interested in the mind/body connection and the use of mindfulness techniques to address anxiety and trauma.
Kavita’s clinical approach is eclectic, ranging from Mindfulness, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Dialectical behavioral Therapy, and guided imagery; which are all adaptable to improve therapeutic outcomes.
