I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker with a Clinical specialty (LCSW-C). I have almost 20 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders that impact adults, adolescents and families. I have advanced training in Mood Disorders, EMDR, PTSD, Complex Trauma, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Adolescent Mental Health. I am Level II C-PTSD Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) and am also certified in EMDR. I have specialized training about how trauma impacts upon the developing brains of adolescents as well as on the brain functioning of adults and have presented both locally and nationally on the topic. In years past, I worked in agency settings as a Therapist, Milieu Manager, Clinical Director and Adjunct Faculty teaching Graduate Students in Loyola's School Counseling program and UMD's School of Social Work. I also hold the following qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida (1997), whose program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, a nationally recognized organization founded to promote and improve the quality of education in social work,
  • Certified Clinical Trauma Professional - Level II C-PTSD, granted by the International Association of Trauma Professionals
  • Graduate of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute’s Level I (2011) & Level II (2017) programs,
  • Graduate of the Greater Washington EMDR Institute (2005), Certified in 2015,
  • Certificate in Trauma Treatment from the University of Maryland (2004),
  • Registered Supervisor with the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners,
  • Member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW),
  • Member of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, an educational organization dedicated to the study and teaching of a somatic approach to clinical psychotherapy practice (www.Sensorimotorpsychotherapy.org), and
  • Member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), a professional association where EMDR practitioners and EMDR researchers seek the highest standards for the clinical use of EMDR (www.EMDRIA.org).

A unique aspect of my treatment is my use of pet therapy. I have a Beagle, whose name is Melmo, and he is often present during therapy sessions. He has completed both the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) training program as well as a Pet Therapy Training class and has passed both tests. If you are allergic, have a fear of dogs or just prefer that Melmo is not present during your sessions, let me know and we can try to make that arrangement. If you are unsure and want to meet him before making a decision, we can make that arrangement. Please know he is also crate trained and can rest in his crate bed at any time. After greeting you with sniffs and a wagging tail, Melmo often likes to lie beside you but he doesn’t take it personally if he’s told “off.”
